Welcome New Member Store, Flooring Supercenter, in Racine, WI
8/21/10 — Paul Curtin started his flooring business 25 years ago and had several stores. Shannon, his son, started working with the installers at age 12, helping them pick up scraps and spread glue. In high school, he began working in sales and bookkeeping. Later he managed a store for his father for a couple of years. When his father decided to sell the stores, Shannon was too young to purchase them.
He was out of the flooring business for 3 years and worked for Miller beer. During that time, his previous flooring customers kept calling and asking when he was going to start his own flooring business. They needed better deals on their purchases and knew Shannon could make that happen. He took this as a sign, went to the bank and opened a free checking account putting in the minimum amount required. He rented a store for $150/month in a not so pleasant area of town, but the building was large enough to have a small storefront and warehouse. He called some reps and was set up on a cash only basis and opened his first store with $50 and 3 carpet samples.
That was 10 years ago and now Shannon and his dad Paul, employ 12 people and have one of the largest stores in the state at 29,000 sq. ft. They stock 400 rolls of carpet, 150 rolls of vinyl, 40,000 sq. ft. of tile, 50,000 sq. ft. of hardwood, 25,000 sq. ft. of laminate and carry all major carpet, hardwood and tile lines. They also carry more area rugs than anyone in Wisconsin. In addition, they have a ‘custom order’ area featuring CarpetsPlus Color Tile displays for their clients.
Maintaining a large volume allows them better buying power. They do not advertise and most of their business comes from repeat customers. Their honest reputation is well known and encourages their customers to recommend them.

CarpetsPlus Color Tile Partners With The National Arbor Day Foundation
11/20/08 — CarpetsPlus Color Tile announces a new partnership with The National Arbor Day Foundation. The partnership will help plant trees in our nation’s National Forests and help preserve the world’s rain forests through the Foundation’s Rain Forest Rescue program.
The Arbor Day Foundation will plant one tree in a national forest or preserve 250 square feet of rain forest land for each one-dollar donation made. CarpetsPlus Color Tile will contribute to the two Arbor Day Foundation programs for each purchase of their exclusive and environmentally friendly EcoChoice® branded flooring products. The line includes carpet, carpet cushion and hardwood.
“We appreciate the continued support from CarpetsPlus Color Tile to help restore our nation’s forests and preserve the world’s rain forests,” said John Rosenow, chief executive of the Arbor Day Foundation. “The contributions from CarpetsPlus Color Tile will help protect waterways and soil, restore habitat for wildlife, and help preserve the Earth’s vital forests for generations to come.”
America’s national forests are in need of replanting. Due to recent years of record or near record forest fires, the U.S. Forest Service has more than a 1 million acre backlog of national forest land that needs replanting. Also, nearly 100,000 acres of precious rain forests are destroyed every day. The Arbor Day Foundation’s Replanting Our National Forests campaign and Rain Forest Rescue program is helping to restore these areas with much needed tree canopy.
Jon Logue, co-CEO of CarpetsPlus Color Tile, said, “We are pleased to continue our relationship with the Arbor Day Foundation. For over 50 years, we’ve been a leading, nationwide flooring retailer and we believe it’s our responsibility to continue our leadership in offering environmentally friendly flooring options.”
